How Long Can a TOTO Number Go Without Appearing?
Some numbers sit out for dozens of draws in a row. That is not a sign anything is "due" — it is what randomness looks like.
What Is a "Drought"?
A drought, as used on this site, is simply a stretch of consecutive draws in which a particular number did not appear among the 6 Winning Numbers. Every number in the 1–49 pool has its own history of droughts, long and short, scattered across the dataset.
How Long Gaps Can Get
Across the 1,215 official Singapore TOTO draws this site currently covers (draw #2995, 9 Oct 2014, through the latest draw, #4209, 17 Aug 2026), the longest gap observed for any single number was 83 consecutive draws with no appearance (for the number 13) before it appeared again. That is an unusually long stretch, but on the other end, most numbers' gaps between appearances are much shorter — on average, a number's typical (median) gap between appearances is around 4 to 5 draws.
As one example, the number 1 appeared 158 times in this dataset; its longest single gap without appearing was 30 draws, while its typical gap was 4 draws.
Why Long Gaps Are Normal in Random Draws
With 49 numbers and only 6 drawn each time, any single number has roughly a 1-in-8 chance of appearing in a given draw. Over many draws, occasional long stretches without a particular number showing up are a completely ordinary outcome of that kind of randomness — not a sign that something unusual, rare, or overdue is happening. Long gaps and short gaps both occur, purely by chance, across a large enough sample of draws.
The Gambler's Fallacy
It is tempting to think a number that has not appeared in a long time is somehow "due" to appear soon. This is a well-known reasoning error called the gambler's fallacy. Each TOTO draw is independent: the machine has no memory of past draws, and a number's recent absence does not change its odds in the next draw. A number that has gone 80 draws without appearing has exactly the same chance next time as a number that appeared in the most recent draw.
Where to Check a Number's Own History
This site's Statistics page lets you click any number from 1 to 49 to see its own appearance count over the last 10, 20 and 50 draws, its full history, and how many draws it has been since it last appeared — the same underlying data used for the figures above. See Hot and Cold Numbers: What Lottery Statistics Really Mean for more on why this kind of frequency data is descriptive, not predictive.
