What Is a Typical Winning Number Sum in Singapore TOTO?
Add up the 6 Winning Numbers and you get a sum — most draws land in a surprisingly narrow band. Here is why.
What Is the Number Sum?
The Number Sum is simply the total you get from adding together a draw's 6 Winning Numbers. It is one of the descriptive statistics shown in this site's Statistics page under Pattern Snapshot, alongside odd/even mix, range distribution and consecutive numbers.
The Typical Range
Across the 1,215 official Singapore TOTO draws this site currently covers (draw #2995, 9 Oct 2014, through the latest draw, #4209, 17 Aug 2026), the average Number Sum is 149, and the median is 150 — the two sit close together, which is itself a sign that sums cluster fairly tightly around the middle rather than spreading evenly across every possible value.
The lowest sum observed in this dataset is 59; the highest is 251. Both are unusual outliers — most draws land well inside that range, closer to the average.
Why Very Low or Very High Sums Are Rare
The 6 Winning Numbers are drawn from 1 to 49 without repeats, so the smallest possible sum is 1+2+3+4+5+6 = 21, and the largest possible is 44+45+46+47+48+49 = 264. Neither extreme has ever occurred in this dataset, and that is expected: there is only one 6-number combination that adds up to 21, and only one that adds up to 264, but there are many, many different combinations that add up to a middle value like 149 or 150. With every combination equally likely, sums near the middle simply have far more ways to occur than sums at the extremes — the same basic reason that rolling two dice lands on 7 far more often than on 2 or 12.
Reading the Number Sum on This Site
The Statistics page shows the average, minimum and maximum Number Sum for whichever time window you select (10, 20, 50 draws, or all history), so you can see how this figure has moved over different stretches of draws.
What This Doesn't Mean
A "typical" sum is not a winning formula, and choosing numbers to hit a particular sum does not change your odds — every valid 6-number combination has exactly the same chance of being drawn, regardless of what its numbers add up to. This is purely a description of the historical record. See Odd vs Even and Low vs High Numbers for two related ways of looking at the same historical draws, or explore the live figures yourself on the Statistics page.
